Do you have a hidden food sensitivity?

Have you ever followed a healthy diet, exercised consistently, and still felt like something just wasn’t right?

Maybe you’re constantly bloated, fatigued, or struggling with stubborn weight gain that won’t budge—despite doing everything “right.” The missing piece of the puzzle could be food sensitivities.

Many people overlook the role that hidden food intolerances play in their overall health, often dismissing symptoms like indigestion, brain fog, and low energy as part of life’s daily grind. But what if these seemingly minor issues were actually signs of a deeper problem? That’s where food sensitivity testing comes in.

What are food sensitivities?

Delayed onset sensitivities

Food sensitivities are different from food allergies, which can cause immediate and sometimes life-threatening reactions.

Sensitivities, on the other hand, are more subtle and delayed after eating certain foods anywhere from 2 hours to 3 days!

They can cause a variety of chronic and even painful symptoms including:

  • Bloating and gas

  • Digestive discomfort (constipation or diarrhea)

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Skin issues like acne, eczema or psoriasis

  • Joint pain or inflammation

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight

These symptoms can be frustrating because they don’t always correlate with the foods you expect. While you might not feel sick immediately after eating, certain foods may be quietly sabotaging your health in the long term.

How food sensitivity testing can help

This is where food sensitivity testing comes in as a powerful tool to uncover the hidden causes of your discomfort.

The process involves a blood test that identifies specific food proteins your immune system is reacting to, indicating foods that could be causing inflammation or digestive issues.

By pinpointing these trigger foods, you can take control of your health and start healing from the inside out. Temporarily eliminating foods that don’t agree with your body can lead to remarkable improvements in your overall well-being, such as:

  • Reduced bloating and better digestion: No more feeling sluggish and uncomfortable after meals.

  • Clearer skin: Many skin conditions like acne, eczema and psoriasis are linked to internal inflammation caused by food sensitivities.

  • More energy: Chronic fatigue often stems from your body constantly fighting off inflammatory foods.

  • Easier weight loss: Once you stop consuming foods your body is sensitive to, your metabolism can reset, making weight management more achievable.

Are hidden food intolerances holding you back?

Do you suffer with digestive issues?

If you’re constantly dealing with symptoms like bloating, fatigue, or brain fog despite eating a balanced diet, food sensitivities could be the missing link. You may be unknowingly consuming foods that your body can’t properly digest or tolerate, leading to a cascade of inflammatory responses.

But how do you know if food sensitivity testing is right for you? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you often feel bloated or uncomfortable after meals?

  • Are you struggling with low energy or brain fog throughout the day?

  • Have you been dealing with stubborn weight gain or difficulty losing weight, despite your efforts?

  • Do you have unexplained skin issues, joint pain, or migraines?

If you answered “yes” to any of these, food sensitivity testing could be the solution that finally brings relief. By eliminating trigger foods and allowing your body to heal, you can improve your digestion, balance your energy levels, and unlock the door to better health.

What if I don't want to have a food sensitivity test?

There are ways that you can test for food sensitivities at home. When clients come to me with GI symptoms, I use two different tools to help them connect what they eat with how they feel.

Tool #1: Food journaling

#1: Keeping a food journal

For 3 weeks, my clients keep track of:

  • Everything that they eat and drink

  • How they eat (for example, eating on the go, while driving to an appointment)

  • How much they eat (until just satisfied versus stuffed)

  • How they feel after eating, and noting symptoms such as headaches, bloating, and stomach pain

  • How they sleep

  • Their stress level

This journaling exercise can help you identify sensitivities as well as lifestyle factors that are contributing to your digestive issues.

Tool #2 : Eliminate and challenge procedure

Elimination diets work to help you identify foods that are causing your symptoms. It involves eliminating foods that are causing you an issue for usually around three weeks.

After three weeks, you will then slowly reintroduce specific foods one at a time, each reintroduction spaced a few days apart.

As you do so, you will monitor your symptoms for possible reactions and you will be able to understand where your tolerance levels are for each food. It is a trial and error approach to testing out different foods for you.

The problem with elimination diets? They take time and effort. It's essential to have the guidance of a nutrition coach or healthcare provider when making dietary changes to avoid the risk of nutrient deficiencies.

Blood sensitivity tests can be more convenient than maintaining food diaries or following elimination diets. While these tests offer a quicker way to identify food sensitivities, they come with a price tag that may not be affordable for all individuals.
